:D

saw this poster in school today. very true indeed. today turned out much better, better than i had expected. :D

smile, it's a beautiful life

things often don't turn out the way you want them to be. the more you hope for and yet they don't happen, the more disappointed you will be.

Though I am having an awesome time going through my 2 weeks of school experience, some minor things which i realised yesterday left me feeling sad and disappointed. there's still time to change, to make things better and i know i will make it at the end of the day. dont give up and keep smiling, it's a beautiful life.

save my world

Lyrics:

Save my World, Save my World
Save my World, Save my World

As far as you can see
On the land and out to sea
There's something very wrong
And it's time to change
We're going to need (we're going to need)
A helping hand (a helping hand)
We need to save this world
We hope that you can understand

Save my World, Save my World
Save my World, Save my World

We're going to have to clean
Every hill and every stream
If we don't change our ways
It will be too late
Don't make a mess (don't make a mess)
Don't be selfish (don't be selfish)
We need to save our world
For us, the birds and bees and fish

Save my World, Save my World
Save my World, Save my World

Save my World (come on and), Save my World (why won't you)
Save my World (will you please), Save my World (you've got to)

Save my World (come on and), Save my World (why won't you)
Save my World (will you please), Save my World today!

English Title: Do You Still…?
Album: Human

Year: 2011

Chun yang bpen kon tee ruk tur moht jai

I’m still the man who loves you wholeheartedly

I still can only think of you constantly
Chun yang doo roop taai tee rao chit glai yoo took wan

I still look at our pictures of when we were close everyday

I’m still waiting for you to come back
Chun yang gaa bpa-dti-tin took keun wan
I still cross off each day on the calendar
Pror kam dieow ra-ya taang tee mah kwaang gan rao wai
Because one word stood in our way and kept us apart

*Dai dtae kid laaw gor song-sai

I can only think and then wonder
Yoo trong nan tur bpen yaang rai gor mai roo

I have no idea how you’re doing over there
Faak pleng nee hai pai taam tur doo
I’ll send over this song to ask you
Yahk ja roo nai kwarm bpen pai

Yang ror chun kae kon diow
Still waiting for only me?

Please let me know

Chun glua krai tum hai tur nan plian pai

I’m afraid someone is going to change you
Chun glua sing tee mai nae naun maak maai
I’m afraid of so many uncertain things
Chun glua kam wah sia jai
I’m afraid of regret
Tur ror chun dai chai mai
You can wait for me, right?

good reads

finished reading the travel memoir 'Eat Pray Love' by Elizabeth Gilbert. frankly speaking, i dont really get the first part (Italy) of the book. found it a little dry and boring. things got better when i reached the second (India) and third (Indonesia) part. gained some insights along the way and thought about what were written. googled some of the characters/information i came across (ketut liyer, wayan nuriyashi, novica...). a good read overall.

'...you cannot see your reflection in running water, only in still water.'

'In our real lives, we are constantly hopping around to adjust ourselves around discomfort - physical, emotional and psychological - in order to evade the reality of grief and nuisance. ...grief and nuisance are inevitable in this life, but if you can plant yourself in stillness long enough, you will, in time, experience the truth that everything (both uncomfortable and lovely) does eventually pass.'

'This is what rituals are for. We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don't have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down.'

the next book to read:

land of thousand smiles (:

4d3n spent at pratunam in bangkok. much planning and research have been done prior to the trip, finding out places to do our shopping, figuring out the routes to take and coming out with our itinerary. however, we didnt manage to visit all the places we have planned to since there was not enough time. but still, this bkk trip was awesome. i'm grateful to ah may of p2 boutique hotel whom has provided us with advices and recommendations of several places we should visit (eg. x2 wanton mee...). she even helped us to 'secure' a cab to chatuchak market after several failed attempts to get one willing to take us there. thank you to the 4 other awesome people for the fun and laugther these few days in bkk. i'm sure we'll be going back again soon and probably this time we shall stay on longer, doing things we have missed out for this trip.

The Lucky One

it has been some time since i last read a book. decided to get myself a novel after a session of badminton on thursday. bought 'The Lucky One' by Nicholas Sparks, which is now a movie being screened in the cinemas. i had read 2 or 3 other books by him previously and found that his books are enjoyable and easy to read.

spent my awesome friday and saturday relaxing on the sofa, indulging in the good book while listening to nice songs being played on the radio. this seems to have some therapeutic effects, countering the frustrations/anxieties we face in busy and fast-paced lifestyle that we are leading. now that i have finished reading it, i guess i'd need to hunt for more books to keep me companied for the looong holiday!

Outward Bound Singapore

5 days of fun and laughter on the small island of pulau ubin. similar to any other camps, we did outdoor activities such as the high elements, kayaking, trekking, field cooking and many others. however, the only difference was that we played two different roles throughout the course, not only as a participant but also as a teacher. Different theories were taught and I gained a lot during these 5 days, especially technical matters such as doing RAMs or expedition planning. More specifically, i know more about outdoor education and its importance in developing the character and potential of an individual. noting down several new insights gained throughout the camp, i hope i can still remember them by the time i am out in the school teaching PE or engaging in outdoor education. on the last day of the camp, there was an activity where all of us will proceed from station to station reflecting on what we had done and gained from the past 4 days. one particular station requires us to think about values that are important to you in your personal and work life. this was something refreshing for me, reminding myself about the values which i believe will guide me to be a better person, a better teacher in the near future.

i like:

1) the way we always have reflections after each activities and everyone gets a chance to share what's on their mind, linking it to our daily life or even applying it to our working life when we are in schools.
2) the fact that our instructors (Gek Fong and Iskandar) are always well-prepared, engaging (putting in effort to make boring lectures into interesting ones) and confident in facilitating the activities conducted.
3) everyone in my watch (Dhana Balan). thank you for helping each other out and making this experience a memorable one.
4) OBS

Here's a quote i came across from the book 'Manual of the Warrior of Light' by Paulo Coelho during the camp:

A warrior of light shares his world
A warrior of light shares his world with the people he loves.

He tries to encourage them to do the things they would like to do but for which they lack the courage; at such times, the Enemy appears holding two wooden signs in his hand.

On one sign is written: 'Think about yourself. Keep all the blessings for yourself, otherwise you'll end up losing everything.'

On the other sign, he reads: 'Who do you think you are, helping other people? Can't you see your own faults?'

A warrior knows that he has faults. But he knows too that he cannot do his growing alone and thus distance himself from his companions.

Therefore, he throws the two signs to the floor, even if he thinks they may contain a grain of truth. The signs crumble into dust, and the warrior continues to encourage those nearest him.

Music Of The Night - Sarah Brightman

Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination
Silently the senses abandon their defenses

Slowly, gently night unfurls its splendor
Grasp it, sense it tremulous and tender
Turn your face away from the garish light of day
Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light
And listen to the music of the night

Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar
And you'll live as you've never lived before

Softly, deftly music shall caress you
Hear it, feel it secretly possess you
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind
In this darkness that you know you cannot fight
The darkness of the music of the night

Let your mind start a journey through a strange new world
Leave all thoughts of the life you knew before
Let your soul take you where you long to be
Only then can you belong to me

Floating, falling sweet intoxication
Touch me, trust me, savor each sensation
Let the dream begin, let your darker side give in
To the power of the music that I write
The power of the music of the night

You alone can make my song take flight
Help me make the music of the night

The Invisible Workforce Behind This City

This video reminds me of a post i wrote previously.

Working Hard (posted on Wednesday, 28 September 2011)

9:33pm

i went for a run. saw these 3 bangladeshi workers painting the bus-stop.

10:27pm

i was on my way home from the run. the 3 bangladeshi workers still working hard painting the bus-stop. some thoughts went through my mind. often, we like to make fun of these bangladeshi workers because they are employed to do jobs which probably not many singaporeans would want to. they sometimes work in the wee hours when everyone is sleeping soundly as well. let's imagine that these bangladeshi workers arent around for a week, how would our lives be? honestly, we ought to thank them and recognise their effort in contributing to our society.
